100 – Jubilee “Art of Georgian Painters

On 4th of May, 1919 “The Society of the Georgian Artists” arranged the first large – scale exhibition of Georgian artists “Exposition de Beaux Art des Peintres Georgiens” in “Temple of Glory” /nowadays National Gallery/ in Tbilisi, where participated 15 artists with 278 artworks, among them 8 pictures of Niko Pirosmani, who died one year earlier this event.
On 4th of May, 2019 Baia Gallery presents the exhibition “Expo 1919 – 2019” dedicated to the centenary of the first Exhibition of Georgian Painters.
At the “Expo 1919 – 2019” will be on display artworks by some of participants of 1919 exhibition (Lado Gudiashvili, David Kakabadze, Elene Akhvlediani, Mose Toidze, Irakli Toidze, Shalva Kikodze, Valerian Sidamon – Eristavi) with the artists who have been creating different tendencies of Georgian art, during 100 years (Kiril Zdanevich, Petre Otskheli, Irakli Gamrekeli, Sergo Kobuladze, Vasili Shukhaev, Nika Kazbegi, Korneli Sanadze) and contemporary artists (Aleksandre Bandzeladze, Jibson Khundadze, Otar Chkhartishvili, Irakli Parjiani, Merab Abramishvili, Kote Sulaberidze).
We show the spectrum of Georgian art during 100 years: 1920 – 1930s Modern and Avant – garde , 1940 – 1950s Soviet Art, 1960 – 1970s Abstractionism and Non Conformism, 1980 – 1990s Postmodern and finally Contemporary art of nowadays.
